Thursday, October 18: Regular Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 131

Julie Spalding, a CPA from the Kentucky State Auditor's Office was our guest speaker. Julie described the type of work done by state auditors and informed students about the various career opportunities available with her organizaiton.

Tuesday, November 6: Regular Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 131

Doug Dean of Dean, Dorton, & Ford spoke on the equine industry.  This industry is a major segment of DD&F's practice. Mr. Dean discussed the "business" side of Kentucky's flagship industry and specifically addressed special accounting issues faced by those businesses. 

Thursday, November 15: Speial Meeting, 6:00 p.m., CBT Auditorium

This meeting will be held in conjunction with Valerie Himes' Legal Aspects of Accounting class (ACC440). Dick Carroll, Executive Director of the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, will speak with students about what it takes to be a CPA and the CPA exam.  The presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium, BTC 049 and should be valuable for anyone who is considering being a CPA or is just interested in exploring this credential.

Thursday, November 29: Alternate Meeting Date, 5:00 p.m., CBT 131

Karen Neubauer, EKU's Executive Director of Budgeting will be speaking. She holds a forensic accounting certification and may address topics relating to forensic accounting.

Wednesday, February 6 : Spring Organizational Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 132

We will be having an organizational meeting this Wednesday at 5:00, BTC 132.  There will be pizza as usual.  Spread the word, bring your friends, especially ACC201, 202 students!

Wednesday, February 20 : Regular Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 132

One of our favorite speakers, Alan Long, was our guest speaker.

"Alan Long, CPA, is the managing partner of Baldwin & Associates, PLLC. Alan received his accounting degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1979 and was certified in 1981. He is the chair of the Education Foundation of Kentucky Society of CPAs. He is a past member of the AICPA Peer Review Board. Mr. Long was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Kentucky Society of CPAs during the 2006-2007 term and is currently the President-Elect for the 2007-2008 term. He is a member of the Leadership Council of AICPA and an Instructor for Continuing Education Classes." (source: http://www.baldwincpas.com/3.htm)

Mr. Long spoke about careers available in public accounting. He also discussed what he sees as a trend of public accounting firms becoming more specialized in the future, rather than the generalist focus of the past. Mr. Long recommends that students take additional courses in psychology, business law, and computer information systems, in order gain a competitive advantage in the job market.

Wednesday, March 5 : No Regular Meeting due to mid-term exams

Due to mid-term exams, our regularly scheduled meeting on March 5, has been cancelled. We will resume our regular meetings on March 19, at 5:00, in BTC 132.

Wednesday, March 19 : Regular Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 132

Our guests were representives from Becker CPA Review. They reviewed the steps necessary to become a CPA in the state of Kentucky. Additionally they highlighted the benefits of participating in an Review course. Everyone in attendance recieved a goodie bag of accounting paraphernalia. Congratulation to Ben Fryer for recieving the extra special goodie bag. He said, "The jelly beans were fantastic!"

Wednesday, April 2 : Regular Meeting, 5:00 p.m., CBT 132

New officer elections were the order of business. Congratulations to the 2008-2009 officers.
